Pupil Premium Funding at Huncoat Primary School.
Pupil Premium funding is additional funding given to schools to support pupils who are eligible. There are a variety of reasons why your child may be entitled to this funding which includes:
- If they are on Free School Meals or have been at any point in the last 6 years
- If they are a Looked After Child (in the care of the Local Authority)
- If they have previously been a Looked After Child and are now adopted from care or are under a Special Guardianship Order or a Child Arrangements Order or a Residence Order
- If they have a parent in the military or has been in the military over the past 5 years or are in receipt of a child pension from the Ministry of Defence
Government Funding:
- Primary pupils: £1,345
- Secondary pupils: £955
- Looked-after children: £2,345
- Children who have ceased to be looked-after: £2,345
- Service children: £310
Our final pupil premium funding for 2022-23 is £105,910 plus we are allocated £145 x 57 pupils approx. at £8265 for covid top up funding

The pupil premium is required to be used to support improving outcomes for pupils who may be disadvantaged and to close the gap in pupil achievement between identified cohorts.
A summary of the main barriers to educational achievement faced by eligible pupils of the school :

Speech and Language in the Early Years is lower than national
- Pupil Premium children come into the Early Years lower than Age Range Expectations
- A percentage of Pupil Premium children come into school lower than their peers and the gaps aren't closing
- Issues such as Mental Health/Behaviour/ Esteem/ Social skills that stop a percentage of Pupil Premium children achieving
Other barriers include:
- ACE's (adverse childhhod experiences) from within the home environment
- low attendance and persistent absentees
- high levels of mobility within school
At Huncoat we are using our Pupil Premium to :
- To close the gaps between PP children and non PP in reading/ writing and numeracy
- To offer experiences and opportunities for PP children – in return this has an impact on writing and reading inference
- To provide PP children who are also GRT with extra support in Reading & Maths to close the gaps
- To close the gaps between PP and non PP within speech and language in the Early Years
- To offer PP who struggle with social, emotional, behaviors to learning - opportunities to feel safe/ be listened to through wellbeing sessions/ social skills/ behaviour strategies - so they can learn and access learning to the very best
- To support children with behaviours that stop access to learning
- To close the gaps within phonics for the Early Years/ Yr1-2 and continue any support into Yr3-4
- To pay for Pupil Support Officer through attendance to ensure PP have 96%+ attendance
