Top Tips for Reading:

Sibling Readers club

We have recently trained up our year 5 and 6 children who have siblings to read with them. They do a fantastic job segmenting and blending words for their brothers/sisters! The children have really enjoyed listening to their siblings and asking them questions about the stories that are being read. A huge well done to key stage one, fabulous reading! Miss Gregory.

Linking our Reading to Mental Health

We ahve been lucky enough to have beautiful books donated to us by Accrington Library all about our Mental Health, there are stories for all ages/ Year 6 Mental Health/ worries and anxieties/ anger and ways to recognise its ok to feel all these things!

Non-Fiction November

During November each class will be focusing on non-fiction texts as part of their Guided or Whole Class reading sessions plus our extended writing is focused on non-fiction too.

We are very excited that our Brilliant Book Awards have arrived all ready for Year 2 in Spring!

Each daily read is 1 mile - can we bring Christmas to Huncoat? 

Our Fantastic Book Awards pack has arrived - ready for some Yr5/6 readers to commit to the challenge! Mrs Langley and her excited group have started reading already. 


Ruby-Mae, Isobel, Shakira, Eliza, Katie, Natalia, Merica, Teah-Mai, McKenzie and Darcy are enjoying their first novel! 


Our Brilliant Book awards will start in Spring Term - Mrs Dickinson can't wait to start reading with a group of Year 2. 


Year 2 have enjoyed reading: Mrs Blackhat/ Tom's Marvelous Machines/ jasper and Scruff and the Flamingo Hotel. Year 2 voted Jasper and Scruff as their favourite read!

We had a bit of creative fun and designed Toilet Roll Book Characters - we had great Harry's/ Wimpy Kid/ Meg & Mog/ 3 Bears/ Pinochio



World Book Day 2021


We are having to celebrate World Book Day 2021 at home during our national lockdown, So we are making it as fantastic as possible:


Create your own book cover and send us the pictures in


'Drop everything and read' - reading all day with fun, but great activities


Keyworkers come dressed as your favourite character


Guess the staff reader for a prize


Some of the books the class are reading on that day are: How to Train a Dragon/ Man on the Moon/ Room on the Broom/ The Tin Forest/ The Mouse Hole Cat/ Pig Heart Boy



World Book Day 2020


A day full of activities...


Thursday 5th March:


8.30am Join us for our Breakfast Story Read


9am We were really lucky to have Nick Phamphlett from Accrington Library to join us in assembly


At 10.30am our Reading Ambassadors are holding 'Booky Break Time'


At 11am teachers are swapping their favourite reads with other classes 


At dinner we are celebrating a Harry Potter themed lunch!


3.30pm Book Sale and Hot Chocolate reads 


7pm is the official World Book Day Bed Time Read: The Witches by R.Dahl on Facebook.
